I must first say something you’ve probably heard a million times by now, so add this one to the counter: Happy New Year! (Even though it’s late.) So far, my list of resolutions are being kept and I intent to be primped, polished, fit, artistic, smart, and- of course- fashionable through the entire 2009. While there were several amazing moments this past year, it has also been a roller coaster ride for many, including myself, and it feels refreshing to wipe that slate clean and start all over again.
I can already feel the energy of this year. You will say good-bye to many seniors, make it out of tough classes like Calculus (alive, hopefully), drive all over Europe or any other summer destination, and, finally be accepted early into New York University- I mean, the college of your choice (hopefully). It’s so exciting to think about the all that’s going to happen in this year; and designers think so to. As long as we’re looking into the future, let’s take a look at Spring 2009.
Yes, my friends, fashion designers have already pieced together the trends for spring long ago and fashion journalists are just gobbling them up. (The designs, not the designers.) I, although I do no posses the title of a fashion journalist-yet, cannot even begin to describe the splendor I saw from Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear fashion shows (which I watched in the first row… of my laptop while it was logged onto Vogue). My top favorites were Lanvin, Marc Jacobs (not to be confused with Marc by Marc Jacobs, although I like that too), and Alexander McQueen. But as I was clicking around my Vogue habitat, I kept seeing Target Design for All ads. (And well, not to toot my own horn, but I did do a fashion blog about Target a while back.) So it got me thinking: while I will never be able to afford these garments until Spring 2010 (and only if me and my wallet don’t see the light of day until then), what if I checked out some affordable look-alikes to lighten the load on my budget?
Sure enough I have pieced together the Spring 2009 outfits for both ladies and gentlemen that will certainly make it an unbelievable and fashionable year. And while the miraculous artwork of these designers cannot be mimicked, others can sure come close.
First this week, is a personal favorite, Marc is the kind of genius designer that is head designer for the Marc Jacobs line, creative director for Louis Vuitton, and head designer for the "little-sister" line Marc by Marc Jacobs (which, ingeniously is more affordable than the Marc Jacobs line… just not affordable for you and me until the Sale of sales arrives).
