Entering high school offers many new opportunities and "firsts" for teenagers, however, it also offers the discontinuation of old hobbies. After continuing my love for softball during my freshman and sophomore years, I realized that I had a difficult decision to make.
I started playing t-ball when I was about 4 years old and continued playing some variation of softball throughout my entire childhood. I loved the game. I enjoyed cheering on my team and watching my own game improve throughout the years. I sought to improve my game by practicing with my dad and teammates and taking private batting lessons. I wanted to become a better softball player.
Once I started high school, I was excited to be part of the Lightning spirit by playing on one of Cypress Bay's teams. However, because of my multiple extra-curricular activities, I had to make a decision- what to continue and what to stop.
The realization came when I decided that my love for journalism is something I can make a career out of whereas softball ends in college if you continue to pursue it that far. Although, at times, I do miss softball; I don't regret my decision to chose newspaper over journalism. I plan to continue my love for the game in college by playing in an intramural league. The one thing I learned was to make sure to pick something that you love to do because it is important to do something that you love rather than something that you are just going through the motions with.
