Rain doesn't stop the fight against cancer but it does make for a miserable saturday.

The decorations were made, the entertainment was there, and the excitement was built up. Then the rain came down.

Relay For Life is a fundraiser that raises funds for the American Cancer Society. Not only is Relay for a good cause but it is always a ton of fun. Why you might ask a volunteer project might be fun? Because it is basically a big camping trip with all your friends from your school. You have probably heard the slogan "cancer never sleeps". Well thats what relay is all about. Everyone that goes is supposed to stay up all night and walk around the track. Whats more fun than playing frisbee with a bunch of your friends at 3 am?! Thats how last year went. This year we were not as lucky.

For Relay each team decorates their booth and tries to be creative to make more money for the fight against cancer. This year's theme was cartoons so my team picked The Jetsons as our cartoon.

We spent three weeks making decorations and planning awesome money makers. We actually built the robot Rosie from The Jetsons with cardboard and paint. She looked so good. However, cardboard and rain do not go together.

When I got there excitement was in the air. Tents were up, decorations were starting to get set up and the energy of giving back to the community was the atmosphere.

Then the rain came. At first we thought, "This little shower will pass." Boy were we wrong. About two hours later we had to move everything into the gym. We had to take down all the stuff we had just spent hours putting up and run to the gym with it as it rained.

By this time I was wet, cold and miserable. However, this did not stop the festivities. All the entertainment continued in the gym. By 9 pm I was finally able to relax. Now my decision was (like the famous song) "Should I stay or should I go?". A bunch of people just left but I did not want to abandon my team captain and the Relay itself. I ended up staying and eventually fell asleep at 4:30 am in the gym. At 7 am I was brutally awakened by noise and lights and forced to get up.

Even though my spirits were drowned out by the rain, most of the dedicated and fervent Relayers made sure that the fight for cancer went on.

Their theme was Winnie The Poo

A team selling food to raise money

Some people playing football after the rain stopped at like 2 am or something.

Ya, I can't wait for my school's Relay for Life, I feel ashamed for never having the time to take part of this event but finally this year I wanted to do it no matter what since my mom had cancer in my 11th grade year(she is a survivor yay)

Being a part of this event is a major way of showing how teens care about this world, our community and the future.
