The action flick Surrogates brings an almost freakish reality of what could happen in the near future in this new age of technology.

The movie is set in this neo-Boston where humans and robots live amongst each other, literally. The title explains all, as the people live life through their surrogates, which are these robots that are the ideal image of what people wish they appeared like.

All the people via their surrogates are these tall modelesque looking Barbie and Kens that waltz the busy city streets. Surrogacy allows the user to feel invincible because if anything dangerous happens to the surrogate (such as a policeman exploding into pieces) the user back home will be perfectly okay.

Like all new world changing ideas, there’s always a revolution that comes with it. This revolutionary like figure, “The Prophet”, is the leader of those who rebel the practice of surrogacy. To make the “war” even more chaotic, there’s a killer who’s murdering people via the surrogates. Surrogacy is supposed to make one invincible right?

Soon it’s all up to Agent Greer (a now very aging Bruce Willis) and his partner Agent Peters (Radha Mitchell) to solve these cases.

Based on the graphic novel by Robert Vendetti, (graphic novels the new trend in Hollywood after having movies like Watchmen) Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) does a pretty decent job at directing another sci-fi action flick that has robots.

The real appeal of the film is the possibility of a similar even in the future, especially with rapid growth of science and technology. It even laments on a culture of a dependency on technology.

The acting is decent; Bruce Willis of course does really well in action flicks. The story line twists are a bit cheesy and it’s definitely something the audience has seen before whether it’s in the form of The Terminator or I Robot. But other than that is should capture the audience’s attention, especially those science fiction fanatics.

The movie releases September 25 and is rated PG-13.
