So, as I was mindlessly surfing the headlines today, I stopped on one at AOL. Frankly, it told me that if I didn't want to read mindless celebrity gossip or stories about murder, to click this link.

So I did. And I'm glad I did.

Kevin Howard was a small-town football coach in Lincoln, Alabama, a town of 6,000 whose Friday nights revolved around the high school football team. He died last week during a football game, but his legacy still lives on. The field was renamed after him, and it's first game will be played on Thursday.

This man was a nobody by professional sports standards, but he made a difference in these people's lives that truly matters. He made an impact and will never be forgotten.

And that's what's important about life, isn't it? Making a difference, even if it's on a small scale.

This is the type of journalism I want to read and write. Stories about those who make a difference, make an impact, whether in life or in death. Props to David Whitley, the writer, who took the time to showcase this man's difference in his town.

Rest in Peace, Coach Howard. And all those who influenced lives in their communities and have never been recognized.

Go read the article: it'll take about five minutes, but it's worth the time, in my opinion.

Small Town Coach, Big Time Hero
