I am an Iranian-American.

Let's be quite honest for a second - I can sometimes be shy about my heritage. But, I have never been as horrified and proud to be an Iranian as I am right at this moment.

Since the election results on June 12, the country had erupted into chaos. The heart of the violence is in Tehran, the capital and one of my absolute favorite places in the world. However, the sight right now is ghastly.

Mast rallies and protests every day, people found beaten and shot, dorm rooms destroyed, cars blown up, the police causing violence instead of stopping it...and the list goes on.

Yes, the violence is horrible. These protests should be peaceful and allow people to express their thoughts. But, it's not. And, at least now the rest of the world can see how eager the people are for change.

My little cousin is there right now on vacation (wonderful timing, huh?). She managed to log onto AOL, (facebook, twitter, everything else you use for communication is blocked..) and told me about what she's been seeing. In a way, its worse than what's being shown. But, she says, people are trying to be heard.

They just want their vote. They want democracy and the rights that we take for granted. So, let's hear their cries...and hope for a peaceful conclusion.

Definitely. My cousin has been trying to convince my aunt to return early, but she doesn't want to leave yet.

Will your cousin be able to get out of the country safely?
